About the Artist Rachel Silverio
Rachel Silverio began working with clay after moving to San Francisco, drawn to the idea of creating beautiful, functional pieces for her own home.
Her practice is shaped by her abuela, a ceramicist who worked in Miami in the Spanish and Portuguese traditions, and by time spent in Vienna, where she was influenced by the Wiener Werkstätte’s balance of simplicity and ornament.
She works most often in the sgraffito technique, carving repeating ornamental patterns into minimalist forms. Most pieces are created in high-contrast palettes—white and black, or white paired with one rich color.
Rachel creates dinnerware, chess sets, holiday ornaments, lamps, and custom commissions—pieces made to be used, not just admired.
